2,400 academics in a new appeal against harassment
2,400 female academics testify to abuse in a new call in Svenska Dagbladet.
The call has the hashtag #Akademiupropet.
"A well-paid professor crashed me ten times before crossing my arms and took a grip as he stared into my eyes. I did not know if I was going to die now," says one of the female academics
In the wake of #metoo and the many calls against sexual harassment that followed, now women academics choose to go out and mark against abuse and harassment at universities.
2,400 female academics have signed the call, which goes under the hash tag #Akademiupropet.
"Female academics are forced to leave universities and their careers while male offenders are allowed to continue harassing their colleagues and students. This has to end," writes academics in the call, published in Svenska Dagbladet.
The text contains several testimonies from women exposed by male students and professors.
"A senior professor says at a conference, in front of several colleagues, that the only reason I have to present is that I have big breasts," says one.
"A well-paid professor broke me down"
"Some students submit an erotic image with my name and when I respond, I am accused of being too sensitive and recommended to think about whether I should actually continue as a teacher. Then the principal wondered how I get dressed when I teach. "
A female graduate describes how she was raped by a professor. The incident was reported to police, but after one year the investigation was dropped.
"A well-paid professor crashed me ten times before crossing my arms and took a grip as he stared into my eyes. I did not know if I was going to die now. Then he raped me. It took four weeks before the shock released and I could report a police report, over a year before the prosecutor let down the investigation and three years in trauma processing to get rid of all flashbacks. "
